Following the latest trend of primetime reality shows in TV channels, Thiruvananthapuram based Doordarshan Kendra is planning to launch a social reality show titled ‘Green Kerala Express‘ focusing on panchayats and urban local bodies in the state.
Designed in the form of a contest among local self-government institutions, the programme would be aired from Monday to Friday every week beginning February next.
The contest would be based on performance of each local body in implementing programmes relating to sustainable agriculture, conservation of water resources, food and social security, Kudumbasree, Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS), health, education, energy, housing, women’s empowerment and participation in grama sabhas.
Each local body would be selected on the basis of a statement to be submitted by it in response to a questionnaire and a documentary of 8 to 10 minute duration. The preliminary selection of panchayats would be done by a technical jury.
The show is made by the kendra in association with the Department of Local Self-government, Centre for Development of Imaging Technology (C-DIT), State Sanitation Mission and Kerala Institute of Local Administration (KILA).
